Health Info
Here is a list of my 'desert island' health books. Since you aren't allowed more books than you can carry on a desert island, my list is short and by no means comprehensive, but hey it's a start if you're interested, or find yourself on a desert island with time to spare.....
Herbs
How Can I Use Herbs in my Daily Life by Isabell Shipard - A practical herb book written by an Australian on Australian herbs. A delightfully informative read.
The Green Pharmacy written by the wise and holistic US Ethnobotanist, James Duke. Care there are many books out there with this title, but his is the real deal.
Nutrition
Prescription for Nutritional Healing, 3rd Edition by Balch & Balch Hard to go past for its comprehensive approach to restoring health through nutritional means.
Nutritional Medicine: The Good, The Bad and The Politics by Dr Igor Tabrizian.
Available via Nutrition Review Service in Western Australia. Just updated, for those who want to know the 'why' of nutritional medicine in a humourous and understandable manner, this is the best A$25 you will spend.
The Clinical Science of Mineral Therapy by Leslie Fisher available from www.blackmores.com.au . A very interesting clinical write up on the concept of celloids, specific mineral compounds which are left when human tissue is cremated. Suggests that today's amino acid chelates are not all they're cracked up to be, something that I have experienced in my practice. Works well with Nutritional Balancing and Hair and Mineral Analysis by Wilson and Trace Elements and Other Essential Nutrients by Watts.
Diseases
I'm not into labels because they can kill. It's sad to see those who get the cancer diagnosis accept their fate without so much as a whimper because they believe what they've been labelled. For the rest of you, before curling up your toes (!), you might like to read:
Love, Medicine & Miracles by Bernie Siegel. Required reading for any of my clients recovering from cancer.
Outsmart your cancer by Tanya Harter Pierce. Options, Options, Options to consider alongside the more traditional slash, poison and burn. Available via THP's website. Such reading supports "informed choice".
The Cholesterol Myths by Uffe Ravnskov. Learn how scientists shot the messenger, rather than got the message. It would be an amusing cockup if the result - the war against cholesterol - didn't contribute to the destruction of millions of people's health every day.
Recommended People
It is without hesitation that I recommend the naturopathic and counselling skills of Yvonne Altclass in Chatswood, Sydney. Whilst I guess I could minister to myself on my desert island, I'd be much happier with this extraordinarily talented woman by my side. Yvonne can be reached yvonnea "at" ihug.com.au or by phone at 02 9904 8333. Of all the many and varied teachers I have been blessed with in my life, I remain privileged to have her as my mentor.
